Waterproof Backpack – Selecting The Best Waterproof Backpacks for Canoe Tripping

by PennPaddler

Outdoor gear has come a long way over the past two decades and as a recommended outdoor gear a waterproof backpack is at the top of the list.

Check out Amazon.com for a good selection of quality waterproof backpacks.

About two decades ago waterproof bags arrived on the scene but they were a cheaper material than today’s PVCWaterproof Backpack materials and they didn’t have the durability or longevity qualities that today’s waterproof bags have. Today most waterproof bags are in the form of duffle bags or stuff sacks but over the past few years there has been a new design of waterproof bag available to the consumer and that is the waterproof backpack.

With all the same waterproof qualities of the typical duffel or dry sack, the waterproof backpack also comes with many of the same features found on a good backpack such as:

  • Adjustable shoulder straps
  • Shoulder strap paddling
  • Lashing for storing external gear
  • Water bottle holder
  • Adjustable sternum and waist straps (this important design feature is very helpful in situations when you need to carry your gear overland for a distance)

Most waterproof backpacks seal with the traditional folding system that are common on most waterproof bags. And like the waterproof bags, most waterproof backpacks are rated class 3 which means they can withstand quick submersions underwater and are completely waterproof in bad weather or spray situations.
