JetBoil Camping Stove

by PennPaddler

jetboil21Campsite cooking is a highlight for many campers and there are plenty of camping stove options to suit even the most elaborate of campsite meals. Options of propane or gas, single, double or even triple burners, tables and utensil holders basically allow you to set up your kitchen at your campsite. But when you decide to get serious and hit the wilderness for several days or even weeks at a time, the most important aspects of a camping stove are compactness, weight, cooking efficiency and reliability.

For most canoe trips I usually rely on my Coleman double burner camping stove which is capable of cooking up serious meals for several days without the need for refueling. But occasionally I take a canoe trip where cooking an elaborate meal is not on the agenda and a single burner stove and a small 5-piece mess kit become my entire kitchen. But while on an overnight canoe trip last summer a friend cooked up an obviously tasty precooked beef stew for his two children in the time it took me to set up and light my double burner gas stove. He was using the JetBoil stove. I was still heating my meal while the others had finished their meals and enjoying a beverage at the campfire.

Although I have no need to purchase a new stove, if I did need a stove I wouldn’t be afraid to pay the extra cost for the JetBoil. It’s a single burner capable of cooking up a quick meal for several hungry canoe campers in a hurry.
