Big Agnes Jack Rabbit SL Tent Review

by PennPaddler

You can get the best price and selection on your Big Agnes Jack Rabbit backpacking tent purchase at REI.

Occasionally you find a piece of camping gear that has nearly all of the desired features, and the Big Agnes Jack Rabbit SL2 – 3  tent is one of those occasions. The positives of this backpacking tent are many and the negatives are very few. And while this is a backpacking tent it could also be the perfect canoeing tent because of it’s lightweight design, great space and easy assembly.

Big Agnes Jack Rabbit SL2Big Agnes Jack Rabbit SL Features

This 3-season backpacking tent is a free standing tent with plenty of easy assemble features that tired campers will really appreciate. Let’s start off with the convenient hub and clip system and color coded rainfly clips that make this tent very easy to set up.  Also the Jack Rabbit’s vertical walls provide plenty of extra space due to the  cross pole design. This tent is available in the SL2 and SL3 models.

Other Great features of the Big Agnes Jack Rabbit:

  • Two doors which campers will absolutely love because there will be no crawling over each other to exit the tent.
  • Two huge vestibles for storage of larger gear and maybe the pooch.
  • Nearly fully verticle tent walls provide extra space.
  • Easy color coded asssembly.

Negative Features of the Big Agnes Jack Rabbit SL2

The only negative comments I found on the Jack Rabbit SL2 were that it was a little tight for taller people over 6′ 2″ in height. Also there were several negative comments about the lack of gear attic and storage pockets for smaller items. I think they designed it without those features to save weight, but I think the extra space provided by the two vestibules more than make up for it.

If this tent isn’t what you are looking for have a look at the REI Half Dome camping tent or the new Kelty Salida 2.

The pockets are clearly visible in the photo above; the gear loft is sold as a separate accessory.
