Promised Land State Park
Located in the Poconos, Promised Land State Park contains 3,000 acres of land and is surrounded by 12,000 acres of the Delaware State Forest. With the parks 422 acre Promised Lake and 173 acre Lower Lake, this park is known for its fishing and beautiful scenery.
Canoeing, Kayaking and Boat Rental at Promised Land State Park
The park has over 500 acres of flatwater paddling offering canoers and kayakers hours of paddling opportunity. There are five boat launching areas and five mooring areas. During the summer months the lakes are bustling with boating and other recreational activities. Boat rental includes kayaks, canoes, rowboats and paddleboats. Electric motors are available for rent.
Camping at Promised Land
One of the greatest pleasures of Promised Land State Park is the camping opportunity. There are four camping areas, some with walk-in campsites located on the lakeshore. Cabin rental is also available. Year round camping is also available weather permitting. All campgrounds are near swimming, boating,
fishing and hiking.
Campsite Details:
- Pickerel Point - year round camping, walk-in lakeshore campsites, vault toilets, unguarded swimming area
- Lower Lake Campground - flush toilets and hot showers, several electric hook-up campsites available
- The Pines Campground - flush toilets with pay showers nearby
- Deerfield Campground - flush toilets with pay showers, located in a wooded area
Cabins
Located in wooded areas near the Lower Lake, the Bear Wallow Cabin Colony has twelve rustic rental cabins constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. These rustic cabins each have a fireplace, electricity and an adjacent private bathroom.
Fishing at Promised Land State Park
There is fishing opportunity for largemouth and smallmouth bass, pickerel,
muskellunge, yellow perch, sunfish, catfish, brook, brown and rainbow trout. All Pennsylvania Fish and
Boat Commission laws apply.
Swimming
There are two sand beaches that are open from May through September.
- Main Beach - located near the picnic area and is swim at your own risk.
- Pickerel Point Beach - located near the end of Pickerel Point and is swim at your own risk.
Hiking at Promised Land State Park
Promised Land State Park and the
surrounding state forest offers 50 miles of hiking trails with natural scenic views. The trails lead through areas rich in historic and scenic interest. This is especially true from June until July when the mountain laurel and rhododendron are in bloom and again in October at the height of the fall foliage.
Hiking opportunity:
- Hike Bruce Lake Road to a natural glacial lake
- Hike to the little waterfalls along Little Falls Trail
- Hike the loop around Conservation Island.
Environmental Education
Promised Land State Park offer a wide variety of environmental
education programs and self guided interpretive trails. The park also has a small museum that features displays of natural features found in the area and artifacts and the story of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).
